Ideas For Teeth Grinding Symptom Relief

January 6th, 2011
David J Horton asked:

Feel like there is nothing you can do for teeth grinding symptoms that you are experiencing? There are many drugs that can treat the symptoms experienced from TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder), that pain in the jaw that can make it difficult to chew without discomfort and can cause other problems such as migraines.

There is a particular drug that I want to highlight called Soma (Carisoprodol). This drug is used to treat the pain associated with muscle discomfort caused by strains, sprains or spasms. Carisoprodol is a centrally acting muscle relaxant. It acts on the nerves resulting in relief from muscle pain. It can also bring relief by calming the nervous system. This medication must be prescribed by a doctor and sometimes is taken as much as four times a day, with or without food.

One can become dependent on Soma if it is used regularly or particularly if taken in high doses for an extended period of time. When a dependence is developed, symptoms of withdrawal can include stomach cramps, trouble sleeping, headache and nausea. Although rare, some patients may also experience abnormal drug-seeking behavior (addition/habit-forming). When taking this drug it is important not to increase the dosage, take it more often, or take it for a longer of period of time than your doctor has prescribed.

The side effects of this medication can include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure, or face flushing. If these symptoms persist, it is important to contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

As you read about the possibility of dependency and side effects associated with Soma, does it not make you desire a natural way that you can relieve your TMJ symptoms?

My dentist gave me Carisoprodol (a muscle relaxer) for my tight jaw muscles, and my doctor gave me Xanax for my anxiety. Can I take these together or will it not be good if I do?
